Whole grains aren’t just a good source of fibre. As the name suggests they’re made of all the elements of the grain - providing B vitamins, vitamin E, minerals, carbohydrate and proteins.
Whole grains can also help you to maintain a healthy weight as they fill you up and help you avoid snacking. Wife of Gordon Ramsay, Tana Ramsay popped in to the studios to offer some suggestions about how to get whole grains into you and your family’s diet… As a busy mum of four children Tana knows all to well how a bad diet can effect the whole family.
Did you know…1 in 3 people don’t get any whole grain in their diet at all. One portion is 16 grams - it can be as easy as swapping your white bread for a slice of whole meal bread, or ditching your croissant for a bowl of whole grain cereal.
But it’s not only breakfast that can include whole grains. You can experiment with new grains to make new recipes. Add bulger wheat to soups for a nutty flavour - put pearl barley in stews and casseroles or use oats to biscuit recipes and crumble toppings.
