What’s On’ in Dorset

Poole in Dorset is a large coastal town, popular with locals and tourists alike.The town is a centre of sailing and yachting, attracting visitors with its history, museums, arts centre, harbour and Blue Flag awarded beaches.

Poole is also home to Justine Harris, her partner and children Hardy and Elodie. The family has only recently moved to the area. Justine told us how she and her family spend their time in Poole….

It’d be rude not to use the beach down here with kids but we’ve also got the New Forest which is in Hampshire. It’s really good to do things outdoors. It’s a holiday destination so there’s lots of stuff for people to do who come here on holiday.

We go to Weymouth sometimes where there’s a Sea Life Centre. It’s about an hour’s drive.

Is it a lovely place to live?

It really is about the outdoors, you struggle when it’s raining but the moment you get a nice clear day everyone wants to do things more out doors.

You’ve got farm parks. There’s one in Swanage….you can have contact with the animals. There’s Farmer Palmers Farm Park too. You can see the animals and feed the animals. It’s also got a nice café.

What’s it like living in a tourist destination?

The fact that it’s a tourist area means it’s great for the local economy. They were here well before us. Come September though it is nice to have our place back.

Would you recommend Poole as a holiday destination?

Definitely, definitely. A lot of people can’t afford to go away and even babies need passports. It’s ideal, it’s got fantastic scenery.
