Heels for babies, surely not?

News |

heels.gifHigh heels designed for newborn babies have been launched.

The tiny stilettoes are aimed at babies up to six months old and are available in colours hot pink, leopard skin effect and black.

The shoes, called ‘Heelarious’ are the brainchild of American childhood friends turned business partners Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter.

However, concerns have been raised that the shoes are sexual and could be destroying children’s innocence.

Britta Bacon said she thinks the brand is “hilarious”.

According to the company’s website. Britta was “reminiscing about when Kayla was a baby” and she thought about her friend’s shoe obsession.

She thought to herself “That would’ve been hilarious if I could have brought Kayla to a party in high heels when she was a baby”.

The inventors have declared that “safety and comfort” are their main concern. The crib shoes are not intended for walking and the heel will collapse if weight is put on them.

The style names of the shoes have been inspired by the pair’s own daughters Kayla and Brooke.

Britta and Hayden believe the shoes are fun. Saying: “May these shoes bring as many smiles and as much laughter to your life as they have to ours”.

However, has the bit of fun gone to far?

Earlier this year supermarket chain TESCO was criticised for selling padded bras aimed at young girls.

The bra, costing £4 was being sold alongside vests in the seven to eight-year-old age range.

At the time the National Union of Teachers condemned the product stating that there was too much pressure on children to grow up quick.
