Women rule the roost - FACT

News |

juggle.jpgIt is official, women do rule the roost!

When it comes to choices about healthcare and other household decisions women are most definitely in charge.

An NHS survey into choice around healthcare showed that over half of women make the important decisions for themselves and their families, compared with only 10% of men. Over a third of women currently make the healthcare choices for three or more people, with 40% of them making the healthcare decisions for themselves, their partner, their children and increasingly their parents.

The survey also shows that women make more decisions because they feel they have better knowledge of what is available and therefore are better equipped.

When asked about the four ‘Ds’ - whether they class themselves as a ‘decider’, ‘deferrer’, ‘ditherer’ or ‘dodger’, unsurprisingly 36% of women confidently classed themselves as a ‘decider’ with just 22% seeing their partners in the same decisive light.

Just 7% of the women questioned saw themselves as a ‘dodger’ - someone who puts off making decisions.

They felt their partners were 3 times as likely to ‘dodge’ decision making, putting them off until they absolutely have to.

TV presenter Trisha Goddard said the NHS survey was spot on.

“When it comes to healthcare we are the ones making the decisions and research seems to back that up.

Women are the ones who make appointments for you guys when you’re niggling about something not feeling right. We’re the ones who take the children.”

Trisha said women see more of the medical profession.

“We’re the ones who have babies so I’m guessing that we feel more comfortable talking to them [doctors] and we have more practice,” she added.
