    Ode to Guilty Mummy

    April 10, 2008

Mummies Guilt by Joanne Gallacher, one guilty Mammy!

I give up my job to bring you up - I want to love and protect you.

In reality the first days are about crying, milk, sick and poo!

You cry, I jump - whether I be asleep in bed or immersed in water.

I’ve become your servant running around, I have no money - I’m a pauper.

You’re worth it though - your smile melts my heart. I’ll look after you forever.

But the media gripes and family swipes have me at the end of my tether.

The Daily Mail screams don’t work - you must bring up your tot.

Others shout get on yer bike, you’ve got to earn your lot.

Stay at home I’m watching Jeremy Kyle - they all assume.

I try and educate my child - these stereotypes make me fume!

Send her off to nursery - she must mix with those her age.

Don’t you dare, they yell, she’ll become a delinquent full of rage.

OK, we’ll go down the childminding route - the same caring face every day.

She’ll have a replacement Mammy - that will never pay.

Insecure and full of guilt I down a glass of wine.

Come on alchy Mummies - form an orderly line!!!
