Are you pregnant? Still trying to get into your favourite jeans? Never fear as Lara Green from Babyworld.co.uk has been testing out maternity jeans with a panel of parents. We asked her what points expectant mums should consider when looking to purchase this fashion must-have.
Is it difficult trying to find clothes when you’re pregnant?
It’s not difficult now there are so many styles for pregnant women that it’s not really hard nowadays. You can buy on the high street or the internet. It’s much easier to find comfortbale clothes now that’ll last you during pregnancy and a little bit after.
Are maternity jeans comfortable?
They are, they’re made from nice stretchy material.
What did your testers look for when trying to find their perfect jeans?
We looked for comfort and style - not a lot of pregnant women want to feel their style’s gone out of the window. We also looked at jeans that washed well, something that offered good value for money and quality. You want a pair that are going to last you a good nine months.
Which brands did you test?
We looked at five. We tested Mamas and Papas Boot cut jeans, Jo Jo Maman Bebe, Funmum maternity jeans, Seraphine and Crave maternity pull on jeans. They vary in price. The cheapest started at £29.99. We didn’t look at any over £60. There are loads of different cuts that you can get, there are bootleg ones, skinny jeans. It’s really worth taking a look around and seeing what you like and what would suit you.
How do we work out our size?
You always go by your pre-pregnancy size. If you were a size 12 then you stick with a size 12 but the sizes do vary. It is worth checking your measurements and going by them too.
Can you get different leg lengths?
Yes you can, most stores do that now and the same with online companies so everyone should be catered for.
Which jeans fared best?
Our clear winner was the Mamas and Papas Bootcut jeans. They sat nicely on the bump, they didn’t itch and were really good value.
What things didn’t the testers like with the jeans they tried?
The bump issue was the main thing with itching across. Not washing well, a couple of pairs felt too small on a couple of the women. In general you can’t go to wrong. It was really the comfort factor that seemed to be the important thing.
How easy is it buying online?
It’s perfectly fine especially if you’re pregnant and working, you haven’t got time to get the shops. Most of them will operate a really good returns policy so it can be really handy to order online.
How many pairs would you buy?
I’d say two to see you through for the nine months.
