Product Tests, Pregnancy & Birth |

nappies.gifLara Green from Babyworld.co.uk has been testing out real nappies with a panel of parents. We asked her what points parents should consider if they are looking to go green and go down the real nappy route.

    Is there much choice now?

There is. They’ve really come a long way in the last couple of years. There’s probably too much choice and it’s quite confusing. Generally you can either go down the disposable route or re-usable nappies.

What are pros and cons to disposables?

They’ve been around for years, easy to use, very convenient, good for when you’re out and they tend to have good absorbency. You can get eco-friendly ones now too.

The cons are that millions and millions go to landfill, they take years and years to decompose.

How should you choose a disposable nappy?

It’s probably more a case of trial and error and finding out what fits your baby best.

What are the pros and cons to real nappies?

They’re becoming quite popular now. We did a test last year and most of the parents agreed that some are easy to use. With re-useable they do say that you can save quite a considerable amount of money. There is a higher amount of money to spend initially up front. Most are easy to use, wash well and dry well.

Have you heard about laundry services?

They are becoming more popular and perhaps if you want to use re-usable nappies you should contact your council. They can tell you what facilities are available to you.
