Is Ava the new Lola?

With the arrival of Myleene Klass’s little girl, Ava has become the latest celebrity must have name.

Myleene went into labour shortly after co-hosting The One Show on BBC One in August 2007.

The baby, which weighed in at 5lbs 9oz (2.5kg), arrived three-and-a-half weeks early. However, Myleene had previously said that her due date kept fluctuating. The TV presenter and her fiancé Graham Quinn named the little one Ava Bailey Quinn. However, in America, Ava has become somewhat of a celeb name of late. One blogger wrote that it was the “new Lola”.

Ava as a name for girls has been one of the 1,000th most popular names in the United States since 1880. Last year, in a poll of the most popular girls names in the UK, it came in a respectable 64 out of 100. So, who are the other famous Ava’s? Obviously Hollywood film legend Ava Gardner shared the moniker. More recently though Dynasty and TJ Hooker actress Heather Locklear gave birth to Ava Elizabeth.

Since then we’ve had another Ava Elizabeth in the shape of the daughter of Hollywood actors Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillipe. Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife also have a daughter named Ava and Jason Priestly - he of Beverley Hills 90210 fame and his wife Naomi Lowde Priestley have daughter Ava - born just a few weeks ago.

Well, they’re all over the pond so Ava is still pretty unique in the UK. Well done Myleene on choosing a beautiful, classy name without being to “out there”.
