Isleworth is a suburb located in the London borough of Hounslow. It’s situated along the River Thames and is near Richmond and Heathrow Airport. The area which boasts a library, gym, parks and swimming pool is also steeped in history and trivia.
Did you know that Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh moved to Isleworth in the 1870s to become a teacher and preacher? In addition, Charles Dickens used to drink in the town!
Today, the area is also home to working mother-of-one Gurpreet Keila. Gurpreet, who has a one-year-old daughter named Ria said “It’s quite a nice area, we’re in the suburbs, we’re close to London and it’s fairly pleasant with lots of parks and things to do.”
So, What can you do in Isleworth with a one year old?
There’s quite a bit if you have a look around. We have lots of parks, we’ve also got a great NCT run Baby Zone. That only costs a couple of quid to go to and you get a cup of coffee and you get to chat to other Mums which is really useful.
What do you do with your time with Ria now you are back in work?
I tend to go to libraries, do baby rhyme time. All the Hounslow libraries do some sort of baby and toddler sessions. Most libraries have a certain area for babies.
We go swimming every Sunday and Isleworth has got a lovely lagoon pool which is great for little babies.
How accessible is London from where you live?
Not too bad, if you’re coming from Isleworth into Waterloo, it’s a 40 minute, very nice train journey - apart from the stairs to get to the station. If you hang around for long enough somebody helps you with your pushchair. Getting around from Waterloo isn’t too bad because it’s central London.
How is all the hustle and bustle of London with a little one?
Great, you’ve got all the museums which are free, you’ve got galleries which are free and all the nice parks to go to. You’ll find lots of great places to eat. It’s harder to find child friendly places to eat in your local area than it is in London.
What’s it like in Isleworth if you want to take Ria out to eat?
We’ve got some lovely cafes near us. We tend to go on picnics and you can make sure they’re getting everything they want.
What do you look for when deciding a day out?
Somewhere that is accessible, preferably somewhere that has child changing facilities. We’ve taken her to a couple of music events which she’s really enjoyed.
What do you do when the weather’s not nice?
We have lots of toys, sometimes it’s nice to cuddle up under a blanket and read a book. I tend to take her to other peoples houses when the weather’s not so good so she’s got other children to play with too.
